Skype for Business is the redesigned and rebranded version of Microsoft Lync. If you are a regular use of the free version of Skype, then you will find the Skype for Business client very familiar. But it contains all the Lync features integrated.

Improved meeting window
Skype for Business offers a very user friend meeting window. The chat message is formatted so that you can find out who is talking. All the conversations are tabbed, which means you do not need to open multiple windows to find out the chat history. The meeting windows has been designed so that controls and menus can be found easily.
File preview during the conversations
Now you can right click or tap a file that someone has sent you during a meeting or a conversation. Doing so will allow you to preview the file and decide whether to download the file. You can also forward or delete the file.
Integration with the Skype directory
Using Skype for Business, you can connect to the Skype users. When you are searching contacts, you can specify your own contact list or the Skype directory.
A compact call monitor
Now Skype for Business comes with a compact call monitor which shows to monitor the call progress. The call monitor also allows other actions like mute or end the call.

A wide range of emoticons
Skype for Business has the same set of emoticons offered by the consumer edition of Skype.
Enterprise calls from Skype for Business
If your organisation has a Skype for Business server, then you call from Skype for Business using your desk phone for audio. When you make such calls, the audio gets routed through your desk phone. So you get great audio and on top, your can instant messaging and desktop / app sharing capabilities.
