Happy Australia Day!

 Jan 27, 2014

Australia Day is a day to celebrate Australia as a multicultural, diverse and tolerant nation. More often enough though, it's a day where you'll find many people enjoying a day at the beach, having barbeques and watching fireworks displays. The New Horizons Team hopes you're all having a great long weekend! Here are 10 fun facts that we thought are also worth celebrating this long weekend. Enjoy!
  1. In 1902, Australia was the second country in the world to give women the right to vote.
  2. One of the many health benefits of playing the didgeridoo is enhanced blood circulation.
  3. In Victoria, the eating of cats and dogs has been banned (we're not too sure about the other states and territories though...)
  4. Australia has sixteen world heritage listed sites including historic townships, cities and landscapes.
  5. Since 2011, Melbourne has been crowned by the world's most livable city 2 years in a row.
  6. The largest victory in an international football match was between Australia (31) and American Samoa (0).

  8. Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world!
  9. Australia has become home to Aborigines for over 40,000 years.
  10. The emu and kangaroo can't walk backwards and will always go forwards - that's what they're on our coat of arms, symbolising Australia's desire to do the same.
The above facts have been sourced from Weekend Notes and Neomam.
