Cortana is the new voice activated personal assistant that comes with Windows 10. She is there to help make things easier for you and keep you up-to-date on the things that matter to you.
In order to activate Cortana, you need to click on the search box located in the taskbar.

Once Cortana windows pops up, you can configure various settings such as “Let Cortana respond when you say “Hey Cortana”.

Once you have turned on the voice feature to on, then you can make Cortana to learn your voice so that she can start performing a task followed by your voice command.
With Cortana, you can have various types of phone, calendar, text, note taking and map / direction commands.
Few Cortana commands are as follows,
Phone commands
Call John
Redial
Press number
Text commands
Text Wife: When is the dinner party? Show me message from Samantha
Calendar commands
Creating meeting event with Samantha at 2 PM tomorrow. What does the rest of my day look like?Reminders
Remind me at 3 PM to submit the report
When my wife calls, remind me to ask her to pick up the kids
Map commands
Take me home
How far is Sydney?
Where am I?
Apart from these you can also use math, flight, local business, news and random questions.
