Software defined networking in Windows Server 2016

 Nov 28, 2016

Software defined networking or SDN allows you to manage both the physical and virtual network devices in a datacenter. Using software defined networking you can also define policies to manage traffic between the physical and virtual networks. Windows Server 2016 comes with integrated features that can help you to implement Software defined networking. Such features are Hyper-V virtual switch, Hyper-V network virtualization and remote access service gateway.

Hyper-V network virtualisation hides application from the actual physical network.

Hyper-V switch helps the virtual machines to connect to both physical and virtual network.

RRAS gateway can link your network to Microsoft azure or other cloud providers.

NIC teaming combines multiple network cards into a team preventing loss of network connecting due to a device failure.

Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager can also provision and manage your datacenter. You can define policies to control your on premises and cloud based infrastructure. The Eindows Server gateway allows you to route the on premises and cloud based traffic between the physical and virtual networks.
