Slow Connection is an Instant Deal Breaker

 Mar 07, 2018

Let`s be honest, if this page had taken more than 10 seconds to load you wouldn`t be here. Patience online is at an all time low, but that’s understandable! With so many resources out there and internet speeds increasing every year, consumers would rather search for a new website than stick with a slow one.

Why is this important?

For mobile websites this becomes especially important. A 2016 study by Google Data revealed that 53% of mobile visits are abandoned if the site takes more than just three seconds to load. This means that time and effort spent on building a comprehensive webpage designed to attract customers and generate sales is wasted.

Find out how you rank!

Google has recently revealed at the Mobile World Congress; their new Mobile Speed Scorecard describes as “an easy-to-use tool that allows you to compare your mobile speed with other companies.” Remember when Google asked if you wanted to share anonymous data? Some of that data includes the average time spent connecting to a page, data that is readily available through this Speed Scorecard. This tool allows you to compare the connection time for your mobile site. Googles’ recommendations are that a website should “becomes usable within five seconds on mid-range mobile devices with 3G connections and within three seconds on 4G connections”

The difference in speed can be a result of any number of different issues in the front end or back end. Issues like image size, browser caching, redirects… the list goes on.

Find out what it means

In addition to checking your speed, an Impact Calculator is also included on the page. Used to calculate the potential revenue loss (or gain) from the speed of your website based on a few statistics like average visitors, order values and conversions rates. While this calculator is only intended to show the potential revenue impact of connection speed, it is a great illustration of how important time is to a customer.
