If you haven’t heard of OneNote and if you aren't aware of the how to integrate OneNote and Outlook, then you may be missing out on one of the best productivity tools that Microsoft Office can offer.
OneNote files are virtual notebooks that can be divided into sections and pages, which are used to organise data. In this post, I'll share some of the ways in which OneNote and Outlook can be used together.
Integrate OneNote and Outlook messages and content
In the Outlook ribbon, there is a 'Send to OneNote' button. Clicking on this will send the content of the email, including the subject, sender, recipient as well as the actual message to any section of any OneNote notebook. In the OneNote ribbon, under the 'Outlook' group, there is an 'E-Mail Page' button. Clicking on this will turn the contents of the current OneNote page into a new email message - all you'll need to add is the subject and recipient.Integrate OneNote and Outlook calendar information
Another type of Outlook item that can be imported is an appointment or meeting. In the 'Outlook' group of the OneNote ribbon, there is a 'Meeting Details' button, which displays a list of upcoming events from your calendar in Outlook. If the one you were after is not there you can click 'Choose a Meeting from Another Day.' There is also a button in Outlook to send the details of a calendar item to OneNote.Integrate OneNote and Outlook tasks
In the OneNote ribbon, under the 'Outlook Tasks' button, there is a list of task due options (e.g. today, this week, etc.) and this can be used to mark a particular point on a OneNote page as a task. It will automatically appear in the To-Do List in Outlook, and if marked as complete in either application, it will be updated in the other. These are only a handful of ways to integrate OneNote with Outlook. Without a doubt, these two applications combined create a powerful productivity tool that has gone underutilised! To integrate OneNote with Outlook is only the tip of the iceberg; there are many more possibilities that are detailed in New Horizons' OneNote 2013 one-day training program.
