The units of competency are divided into the following three areas: | |||

- This unit addresses the skills and knowledge needed to identify the parameters of a learning program, determine the design, outline the content and review its effectiveness.
- This unit shows learners how to use training packages and accredited courses as tools to support industry, organisation and individual competency development needs.
- This unit highlights the skills and knowledge required to plan, organise and deliver training for individuals within a group.
- This unit examines skills and knowledge required to plan, organise and facilitate learning for individuals in a workplace.
- This unit focuses on how to conduct individual and group training in a safe environment.
- This unit discusses how and what to contribute to a workplace assessment.
- This unit looks at how to plan and organise a workplace assessment, as well as how to develop simple assessment tools.
- This unit teaches learners how to design and develop assessment tools including Recognition of Prior Learning.
- This unit documents skills and knowledge required to assess the competence of a candidate.
- This unit describes the workplace practices, skills and approaches required to participate in an assessment validation process.
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is suited to those participants who are currently working as workplace trainers in full or part-time capacity, workplace assessors or who are working in a training courseware design department or organisation. That said it is also ideal for anyone new to workplace training.
It would also suit more experienced workplace trainers/ assessors who have not had any formal training in the three areas mentioned above and want or need to be nationally certified. Business owners would also be suitable candidates for this qualification, as would employees and jobseekers looking to move into the field of workplace training and assessing. Job titles suitable for this program include: workplace trainers, business operators, teachers, frontline managers, and more.Further, this qualification is suited to participants who possess a good grasp of the English language, adequate levels of intelligence, and an appropriate attitude and levels of motivation that will enable them to undertake the demands of a Certificate IV qualification.
For employees and jobseekers who are new to workplace training and assessing but do not need or are not required to be certified then we recommend they enrol our three day Train the Trainer program.
Participants can complete this qualification through two different pathways:
- Training and Assessment- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) including recognition of current competency (RCC) and mutual recognition of qualifications and/or Statements of Attainment from other RTOs (Credit Transfer)
Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:
- Train the Trainer,
Or
- With six to twelve months vocational experience in a workplace training role but without formal supervision or workplace training qualification.
After achieving the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, students may proceed to the TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development or TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or other Advanced Diploma qualifications.
