Secure and sync in OneDrive for Business

 Aug 11, 2016

Millions of files and documents are stored on OneDrive for Business which, in turn, helps people collaborate and get work done seamlessly. However, when documents are sensitive you need an extra layer of protection. Office 365 provides Information Rights Management (IRM) capabilities, which helps secure your files by encrypting them and applying a policy so that only specified internal and/or external people can "act" on your information.

You can, for example, allow recipients to edit but restrict them from forwarding to others. Because the policy is attached to the document, it is applied wherever your document lives. IRM lets you assign policies to emails, SharePoint libraries, Office documents and other file types.

Safely sync protected documents

What happens when you move your data from the cloud and you want your information to stay safe? You can safely sync your IRM protected documents on OneDrive for Business. The IRM protection stays in place irrespective of whether you open the file in Office Online or from a local folder, and continues to apply the settings even if you make edits to the file in both locations!
