Better together: Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 2016

 Jan 17, 2017

Microsoft’s unified Power BI/SSRS combination is rapidly becoming one of the best reporting toolkits available. Much is of this is thanks to the MS acquisition of Datazen, plus amazing collaboration between Microsoft’s Power BI and SQL Server groups.

Here are some of the high points of the Power BI and SSRS relationship:

Reporting Services web portal
This is an updated, modern, portal which incorporates KPIs, Mobile Reports, Paginated Reports, Excel and Power BI Desktop files. The web portal replaces Report Manager from previous releases.

Mobile Reports
Flexible mobile reports that scale well to any screen size: view in your browser of choice, or in the Power BI mobile app available on iPad, iPhone, and Android.

Report improvements
There is a new HTML 5 Rendering Engine; capability to create beautifully modern paginated reports; and best of all - report embedding. You can now embed reports in other web pages and applications – extremely useful for making certain reports available to customers or business partners, for example.
