3 Simple tips to master Thinking on Your Feet

 May 02, 2018

Thinking on your feet, especially under pressure, isn’t the luck of the few; it can be learnt by anyone, using some simple techniques. It promotes personal confidence, makes you represent yourself well, and even helps you make great presentations.

Have you ever been in a situation, say in a meeting, or caught off-guard in the lifts, when you’ve been asked a question by a senior manager and blurted out the first thing that came into your head? You probably walked away and thought to yourself “Oh, I should have said…” or “I just sounded like an incoherent fool”.

Have you ever been asked, at short notice, to make a presentation to your team, senior management, or clients? You want to perform well and make sure you include all relevant information in a clear and concise manner but you don’t have the time to really prepare. What do you do if you find yourself in one of the situations mentioned above? It can feel challenging and it might stress you out.

Think on Your Feet® promises to help you in three key areas:

  1. Be able to marshal your thoughts coherently at short notice

The course provides you with 6 structures which help you communicate straightforward information, or cope with situations that require diplomacy, and persuasion. There are multiple opportunities for practice, and while everyone learns at their own pace, the two days yield significant communication improvement.

  2. Get to the point quickly

“Time waits for no man” and in our busy world, the ability to make a point quickly and logically is vital. Imagine that you have two or three minutes with the boss to make your point; it is critical that you present a valid argument that is persuasive and structured.

  3. Make an impact

What’s the point of speaking knowledgably, but your audience does not remember the key points you were trying to impress upon them? Information needs to be structured in a way that is easy to follow, brief, and primes the listener to remember your key points.
